Where to stay in Pune: the short guide
Pune is both a business city and a weekend base for the Sahyadri hills, so the best area depends on your plans. Koregaon Park, Kalyani Nagar and Viman Nagar have the cafés, restaurants and nightlife, and are close to the airport.
For work trips, stay near your office: Hinjewadi, Baner and Wakad in the west, or Kharadi and Viman Nagar in the east. Traffic between the two sides can take an hour or more, so this matters more than in most cities.

Getting to Pune and hotels near the station or airport
Pune Junction is the main railway station, in the centre near Camp, with frequent trains to Mumbai and across India. The Mumbai–Pune Expressway makes the drive about 3 hours outside peak traffic.
Pune Airport at Lohegaon sits next to Viman Nagar, about 10 to 12 km from the centre and much further from Hinjewadi. Allow extra time for traffic if you are staying on the west side.
The Pune Metro links several parts of the city, including the station and Shivajinagar, and app cabs and autos are easy to find.
