Where to stay in Prayagraj: the short guide
Prayagraj, formerly Allahabad, is where the Ganga and Yamuna meet at the Triveni Sangam. Most hotels are in Civil Lines, the city's planned centre, which has the best restaurants and is a 20 to 30 minute ride from the Sangam.
During the Magh Mela every January and February, and above all in Kumbh years, a temporary tent city rises on the river banks and hotel demand rises sharply, so booking early is essential.
