Where to stay in Gokarna: the short guide
Gokarna is two places in one: a Hindu temple town and a string of quieter beaches just south of it. For the beaches, Kudle and Om Beach are the main bases, with huts, cafes and cliffside guesthouses linked by a walking path and short boat rides. They are busier and better set up for travellers than the more remote Half Moon and Paradise beaches, which you reach on foot or by boat and which have very basic stays.
If you are visiting the Mahabaleshwar Temple or want shops, buses and easier access, stay in Gokarna town near the main Gokarna beach. The town is walkable and cheaper, with a short auto or scooter hop to Kudle and Om.

Getting to Gokarna: Konkan railway, Goa airport and road routes
Gokarna Road station, about 10 km from town on the Konkan Railway, has a limited number of stops. Kumta, about 25 km away, and Ankola have more trains. The Konkan line links Gokarna with Goa, Mangalore and Mumbai, and the scenic journey is popular in itself.
The nearest airports are Dabolim in Goa (GOI) and Hubballi (HBX), each roughly 140 to 150 km away, with Mangalore (IXE) about 230 km. From any of them, travellers continue by taxi, bus or train.
Overnight buses run from Bengaluru, Goa and Mangalore, and many visitors combine Gokarna with a Goa trip because the two are close along the coast.
